Experience the
Tradition
Delicious food and
a homey atmosphere are a family tradition at
Calico's. Presently owned and operated by Lorrie
Lee Olson, the old world German-Russian influence was
brought to the table by her late husband, George Seibel,
Jr.
George's mother was born to
German-Russian settlers in the Artas/Eureka area while his
father as a small child came over to the new country directly
from Russia. George was born in 1934 in a house right here in
Mound City and grew up surrounded by German-Russian tradition. Today
Calico's carries on George's family tradition by
serving delicious, authentic German-Russian Pioneer
dishes!
Founded
originally in 1892 as a hardware mercantile, 25 years later the
building that is now called Calico's became a restaurant and
boarding house filling the need for a prairie
sanctuary when the then existing hotel burned down.
Calico's is thus backed with 114 years of experience in the pioneer
tradition of bringing to people what they most need and want, not
only to enhance survival in the sometimes harsh prairie
conditions, but to flourish and prosper in life. Welcome to
Calico's.
